How to Live Without Dear Abby

My newspaper reading won't be the same now that Dear Abby has died.

I looked forward to her column every day. She was my entertainment at lunch at the office. One of us read her out loud and the rest of us chuckled between mouthfuls.

Dear Abby seldom disappointed us.

She was a caustic dispenser of savvy advice to a daily readership of more than 11 million people.

She also received more than 10,000 letters and emails a week.

That's a lot of drama to sort through. She must have had a beehive of assistants.

What I want to know is what happened to the people whose letters and emails never got answered?

Are they still waiting?

Did they stay in that miserable relationship?

Did that nasty relative keep coming to the Hanukkah party every year?

All those problems that weren't addressed makes me glad to know that God doesn't sort through our problems to tackle some and toss others away.

"Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David." – Isaiah 55:3 ESV

In fact he invites us to dialogue with him.

"Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool." – Isaiah 1:18 ESV

Unlike Dear Abby, God has a listening ear for everyone, and he heard and saw our biggest problem – our estrangement from him.

That's why he sent his only Son, Y'shua (Jesus) to earth to live a sinless life in our place and to die on the cross to pay for our sins.

And by receiving him as Messiah, we are reconciled to God and we become sons and daughters in his family.

That's a far better answer than any response from Dear Abby.

So as much as I will miss Dear Abby's wit and sage advice, I'm grateful I can turn to Y'shua day or night with my problems and know he will answer me.

Are you ready to bring your problems to God?

Send me your question.
