Response to Stan Telchin's Book

Written by: David Brickner

In light of the recent controversy over the book, Some Messianic Jews Say Messianic Judaism is Not Christianity; A Loving Call to Unity, by Stan Telchin, we want to make it clear that Stan is expressing his views and not the views of the Jews for Jesus organization.

For reviews of Stan Telchin’s book by two Jews for Jesus staff members see:

As I was reading your comments to the book of Mr. Telchin, I realized that you people in America always ignore the reality in the latin side of our jewishness. Here in México, and in all South and Central America, Jews that are Mesianic, are in reality diferent from Cristians. The catolic structures of the past, have let in our countries a lot of antisemtic knowledge trough the churches, and been Mesianic is in sopme cases, sinonimus of heretic. Much of your work for Jews, in speaking of Messiah, is pretty much what we see here us cristian efforts. It is valid, but can be treated us mesianic judaism. Please, do´not miss undestand me, Yeshua must be preach but when it came to the way cristians in latin america live and the way jews from ortodox world, We can see the diference, and is very clear. Mesianic Judaism, still been jewish, acording not only to rabinical, but in the principal form of the bible. So I agree with the title of the book, but in order to be truth, I must read it first to see the inside, the heart of it. Shalom

Mr. Brickner's article concerning why he (and Jews for Jesus) supports Messianic Judaism is deeply touching and beautiful. I call upon all who claim Christ as their Redeemer to rally to the support of the important mission and vision of Jews for Jesus. All should know and hear the Gospel and it is organizations such as Jews for Jesus who are on the front lines boldly proclaiming the Good News. Jewish evangelism is very difficult in these days and Mr. Telchin's latest book cannot be viewed as a standard treatise on Messianic Judaism and I urge all to know that Telchin's book does not reflect the long and wonderful history of Jews for Jesus. Further, Telchin's latest book does not square with Scripture. In a recent article printed by The Messianic Times Newspaper, Messianic Rabbi and President of Messianic Publications Barry Rubin stated, "Stan Telchin is not a theologian, he is not a leader of any Messianic Congregation, and he is in no way a spokesman for Messianic Judaism, and yet he has chosen to act as if he were." Telchin's book should be viewed only as Telchin's perosnal opinion and readers should take care to note that it is not reflective of Scripture nor is it reflective of the life, nature, character and the very message of Christ. In these days, we all --- from every denomination --- need to be reminded that it is organizations like Jews for Jesus that are truly making the greatest strides with our Jewish neighbors and friends. Let us all continue to hold up Mr. Brickner, his staff and Jews for Jesus faithfully not only in our prayers, but in our service both financially and in partnership. My prayer is that Telchin's latest book will not be taken seriously and that little damage would be done to the Gentile-Jewish relationship and to the work of such wonderful organizations as Jews for Jesus.
