The formation of this mobile evangelistic music team actually predates the official beginnings of the Jews for Jesus organization. Some of you were first introduced to our ministry through one of The Liberated Wailing Wall's presentations. The faces change, but the spirit of this teamGǔto serve God while traveling the countryGǔis still the same. The new team needs your prayers as they gel" and as they face the challenges of life "on the bus." Pray that the Lord will protect them physically and spiritually, and that He will bless them and make them a mighty blessing to others.
Team leader Joshua plays the violin and guitar and sings bass for the current Liberated Wailing Wall. You may remember Josh and his wife Rosemary because we introduced them as members of the last team. They enjoyed being with The Liberated Wailing Wall so much, that they decided to stay for another 18 months! Josh says, "When I play the violin, I enter into the presence of the Lord and communicate with my Father in a direct and personal way." Josh is a second generation Jewish believer who accepted Y'shua after seeing a production of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe when he was only four years old. He desired the redemption that the child in the story had received. When he was 13, he traveled to Mexico as part of a touring classical violin group. In addition to violin and guitar, Josh plays bass guitar and mandolin, and he writes songs as well! He graduated from the University of California, Davis with a B.A. in Political Science. Before joining the team, he worked in graphic design.
Rosemary sings soprano and plays percussion for our current team. She is also a second generation believer and notes she cannot remember a time when she didn't love Jesus! She and Josh met through their involvement with Jews for Jesus. Rosemary sang in the University Choir and also with "Chamber Singers" and "City Singers" (two other college groups). She studied dietetics and nutrition at the University of California and American River College. Prior to joining The Liberated Wailing Wall she worked as a dietary aid at a community home in Citrus Heights, California.
Lisha Levinson spent the last 18 months on the road singing about and playing the good news of Y'shua with our previous Liberated Wailing Wall teamGǔand she just can't stop! Lisha plays piano and percussion, and sings alto for the current team. She grew up in a devout Jewish home in Brooklyn, New York and attended Yeshiva (a continuation of Hebrew school). However, Lisha's education did not meet her spiritual needs. She often attended church with her friends and after speaking with a pastor of an evangelical church about spiritual matters she accepted Y'shua as her Savior. She has been singing His praises ever since! Lisha worked as a legal secretary before coming aboard to minister with the previous team.
Ronna Cohen is a graduate of North Texas State University with a degree in Music and a minor in Art. She plays piano and also sings alto. Ronna has been writing, arranging and producing music since 1981. She owns her own record label and publishing company, and before joining the team kept busy writing music books, teaching piano and directing music for the worship team at her local congregation in Nuevo, California. Before accepting Y'shua in 1991, Ronna played in different rock bands and was involved with that subculture. Now, however, she uses her gift of music to bring glory to God.
Chad Elliott plays the saxophone and sings bass for The Liberated Wailing Wall. He has been through our regular missionary training program in New York City and this is his first full-time assignment with Jews for Jesus! After graduating from Vandercook College in Chicago, Illinois with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Chad felt a strong desire to reconnect with his Jewish heritage. When he looked up "synagogues" in the Yellow Pages, the one closest to him was a "messianic synagogue." Uncertain as to what that meant, Chad went and discovered a group of Jewish and Gentile believers in Y'shua. He had heard the gospel before but was now at a time in his life when he was prepared to receive it. Before coming on staff with Jews for Jesus, Chad directed the Heritage Middle School Band, and participated in the praise team at his local congregation.
Hannah Lentz plays the guitar and sings soprano for the current team. She is not only a second generation Jewish believer in Jesus, but she has known Jews for Jesus quite well through her parents' involvement as Co-Laborers (Jews for Jesus volunteers). Hannah grew up in what she describes as a "very strong believing family" and has enjoyed singing and playing guitar for high school and adult worship teams. Hannah is "on loan" to us so to speak, while she takes a break from college. Before joining The Liberated Wailing Wall, Hannah attended Ravencrest Chalet Bible School in Colorado.
Zach Lerner was raised in a small town in Texas. One year, at Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) he had the opportunity to blow a shofar (ram's horn). At that moment, Zach knew he wanted to be a trumpet player! In high school, he also dreamed of becoming a pilot in the U.S. Air Force. So after graduation, Zach joined the U.S. Army Band. For four years, he trained and played under the rigors of the U.S. military. He even arranged some of his own pieces and developed his voice as well. As a believer in Jesus, Zach says he is, "impassioned with the desire to reach Jewish people with the gospel, to see them receive the wondrous gift I have received in Y'shua." Zach plays the trumpet and sings tenor for the current team.
Last but not least, the team could not get anywhere without Erik Brohaugh. Erik grew up in a strong Christian home in Northern Minnesota where he accepted Jesus at age five. While attending Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, he earned extra money driving school buses. After graduating with a B.A. in Math Education, he continued driving school buses in addition to teaching. He loves buses so much that he renovated an old 1968 Ford school bus! Erik is the bus driver/sound person for the current team."
