The Bible pulls no punches in describing the state of hopelessness that our sin causes. But neither is it stingy in making promises to those who take hold of the hope God has offered. Below is a small sprinkling of the promises that God has made to us in His Word. He tells us how He will bless us for putting our hope in Him, and He tells us about the hopes we can have in what He will do.
Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the LORD."
"Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His mercy."
"For in You, O LORD, I hope; You will hear, O LORD my God."
"O Israel, hope in the LORD; for with the LORD there is mercy, and with Him is abundant redemption."
"For surely there is a hereafter, and your hope will not be cut off."
"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."
"And again, Isaiah says: 'There shall be a root of Jesse; and He who shall rise to reign over the Gentiles, in Him the Gentiles shall hope.'"
". . . since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of your love for all the saints; because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel, which has come to you, as it has also in all the world, and is bringing forth fruit."
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead."
(1 Peter 1:3)
". . . that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life."
"For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord."
(1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)
"For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. . . that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ."
