Jewish holidays begin at sundown on the evening before the dates given. So for instance, in 2006, the first day of Passover is given as Thursday, April 13, but actually begins at sundown on Wednesday, April 12. At that time the eight-day holiday begins with the first seder (outside the land of Israel, a second seder is conducted on the second night).
